Ingredients for Shrimp and Ravioli

  • Onion: The onion adds a mild, sweet flavor that forms the base of the sauce.
  • Butter: Butter enhances the sauce with a rich, creamy texture.
  • All-purpose flour: Flour thickens the sauce and gives it a smooth consistency.
  • Italian stewed tomatoes: Stewed tomatoes provide a robust, tangy tomato flavor with Italian herbs.
  • Brown sugar: Brown sugar balances the acidity of the tomatoes with a touch of sweetness.
  • Bay leaf: The bay leaf infuses the sauce with a subtle, earthy aroma.
  • Whole clove: Clove adds a warm, slightly spicy note to the sauce.
  • Dried basil: Dried basil offers a fragrant, herbaceous flavor typical of Italian cuisine.
  • Cheese ravioli: Cheese ravioli provides a creamy, cheesy filling that pairs perfectly with the shrimp and tomato sauce. Try using spinach or mushroom ravioli as a variation.
  • Heavy whipping cream: Heavy cream creates a rich, luxurious sauce that coats the ravioli and shrimp beautifully.
  • Cooked medium shrimp (peeled and deveined): Shrimp adds a tender, slightly sweet seafood element.
  • Grated Parmesan cheese: Parmesan cheese enhances the savory flavors with its salty, nutty taste.
  • Minced chives: Minced chives add a fresh, onion-like flavor and a pop of color for garnish.

Directions

Step 1: Sauté the onion

In a large skillet, add the onion and saute in butter until tender. Stir in the flour until blended and cook for two minutes or until the mixture thickens.

Step 2: Prepare the tomato sauce

Step 3: Cook the ravioli

Meanwhile, cook the ravioli according to the package directions. Remove and discard the bay leaf and clove from the sauce. Reduce the heat and gradually stir in the heavy cream. Add the shrimp and heat through.

Step 4: Combine and serve
