Apples and peanut butter is a classic snack combo—easy, tasty and beloved by snackers of all ages. Since it’s such a crowd-pleasing treat even in its barest form, why not upgrade the usual go-to with something a little more sweet and creamy? This peanut butter apple dip is made by beating together your favorite jar of peanut butter with cream cheese, milk, brown sugar and vanilla extract. It tastes like a peanut butter cheesecake, but it’s a dip for fruit or some of your other favorite snack foods.

Peanut Butter Dip Ingredients

  • Cream cheese: To make stirring easier, grab a carton of reduced-fat spreadable cream cheese instead of a block.
  • Peanut butter: Use a creamy peanut butter variety that you know you like.
  • Fat-free milk: This helps to loosen the dip and adds extra fat and flavor.
  • Brown sugar: Brown sugar helps to sweeten up the dip, contrasting the sharp cream cheese taste.
  • Vanilla extract: The vanilla gives this peanut butter dip a little extra something.
  • Peanuts: Stir in unsalted chopped peanuts for a crunchy finish. And if you want to keep the dip smooth, feel free to skip this ingredient.
  • Apple slices: For dipping, obviously.

Directions

Step 1: Combine the ingredients

In a small bowl, beat together the cream cheese, peanut butter, milk, brown sugar and vanilla extract.

Step 2: Add the peanuts

Stir in the chopped peanuts.

Step 3: Serve with apple slices

Serve the dip with apple slices or other dippable fruits and salty snack foods.

Peanut Butter Dip Variations

  • Try crunchy peanut butter: For even more crunch in your peanut butter dip recipe, use a crunchy peanut butter variety instead of creamy.
  • Stir in chocolate chips: Instead of peanuts, give this peanut butter dip a dessert-like flare by adding in semi-sweet chocolate chips instead.
  • Use whipped cream cheese and heavy whipping cream: For more of a whipped texture in your peanut butter dip, use a carton of whipped cream cheese and swap the milk with heavy whipping cream to make this dip even fluffier.

How to Store Peanut Butter Dip

This peanut butter dipping sauce can last up to five days in an airtight container in the refrigerator, making it a great snack to have on hand throughout the week.

Can peanut butter dip be frozen?

While this dip technically can freeze, it will lose that fluffy texture and won’t make for a pleasant eating experience, so we don’t recommend it.

Can you make peanut butter dip ahead of time?

Yes! This peanut butter dip is a great party snack for making in advance. Beat together the ingredients and store it in a container until it’s time to serve. The dip can last for a few hours on the counter, so don’t worry about it going bad if it’s out during your party.

Peanut Butter Dip Tips

Can you make this dip with almond butter?

Yes! If you have a jar of almond butter on hand and prefer the taste of it to peanut butter, then you can easily swap it out and make this same exact recipe using the nut butter you like. This dip could also work with cashew butter and sunflower seed butter.

Can you make peanut butter dip with a food processor?

If you don’t have an electric mixer on hand, you can also beat together these peanut butter dip ingredients in a food processor. Process the ingredients until they’re fully combined and the mixture is smooth.

What can you serve with peanut butter dip?

While we do love the apple and peanut butter combination, this dip is great paired with all kinds of snack foods. Try it with pretzels, graham crackers, cookies, other fruits (like strawberries and bananas) and other vegetables (like celery and carrot sticks).
