Growing up, my mom made quite a variety of Jell-O desserts. We still have this amazing strawberry Jell-O dessert at basically every holiday get-together to this day. Jell-O is retro, versatile and so very, very delicious. And while most people love to experiment with interesting Jell-O shapes and molds, there’s more to this fruity gelatin than we think.

This handy TikTok hack shows us just how amazing Jell-O can really be. Not just for eating, but for helping us feel better when we’re under the weather!

How to Make the Jell-O Sore Throat Remedy

You’ll need a few things for this hack: a box of Jell-O, honey and a mug.

First, you’ll make your box of Jell-O like normal. The video uses orange Jell-O (which goes well with honey), but feel free to use whatever you have handy. Then, after it’s been boiled, transfer the Jell-O to a mixing boil. Add two cups of cold water.

The key point here is that you don’t transfer the Jell-O to the fridge like normal. We’ll be doing something different this time!

After you have your liquidy Jell-O goodness mixed up in your bowl, transfer just the right amount into a separate mug. Add some honey, microwave for 30 seconds and VOILA! You’ve got a homemade Jell-O sore throat remedy that’s bound to make you feel better.

Why Does This Remedy Work?

The gelatin in Jell-O does wonders for coating your throat. While tea and other over-the-counter products attempt the same result, they just don’t do it like Jell-O can. Honey is a great addition as well due to its antimicrobial properties (and its superb taste). Having a sore throat is more annoying than anything else, so we’re thankful for a bit of relief. Now it’s time to try it yourself!
