I have feelings about how Taco Bell has eliminated popular menu items. I still think about the Double Decker Taco and the Quesarito. Thankfully, though, the chain likes to bring back its discontinued items for a limited run, like the mighty Mexican Pizza and the Crispy Chicken Taco. No surprise, both were major hits.

Nacho Fries are another thing altogether, coming and going as Taco Bell pleases. Like the McRib at McDonald’s, Nacho Fries reappear often, and when they do, it’s madness. The cheesy potatoes returned on September 12!

Why aren’t Nacho Fries on the regular menu?

That’s a good question. Taco Bell promised that Nacho Fries would be a permanent fixture on the Taco Bell menu back in April, but it sadly didn’t work out that way. The demand for Nacho Fries stayed strong and loud, and the fast-food chain bowed to the desires of its customers.

Is it too much to say that Nacho Fries might be Taco Bell’s most popular limited-time food item in the past decade? It’s not! Taco Bell says Nacho Fries is the “most successful product launch in the company’s history.”

What makes Nacho Fries so special?

The crispy texture of the spice-dusted fries mixed with gooey, undeniably delicious nacho cheese is a winning combo. If you’ve never had a chance to try the fries before, I can’t recommend them enough. We gave ’em a whirl the first time they hit the menu, and they were easily one of the best new-fast food items in quite a while.

Taco Bell currently has its original Nacho Fries listed as $2.39 for one order, along with a colorful stamp that reads “Limited Time.” Must you always remind me of the impermanence of life, Taco Bell?

We never know when these fries will leave our lives again, so grab a few while they’re still around. You’ll thank me later.
