Spiced Meatballs

I've been bringing this appetizer to family gatherings for over 20 years.

Yield 10 enchiladas

Ingredients

  • Meatballs:
  • 1 lb gound beef
  • 2 eggs; beaten
  • 3/4 cup Italian breadcrumbs
  • 2 tbsp onion; chopped
  • 1/2 tsp salt
  • 1/2 tsp prepared horseradish
  • 1/4 tsp pepper
  • 1/4 tsp hot sauce
  • For Sauce:
  • 1/2 cup catsup
  • 1/2 cup chili sauce
  • 1/3 cup brown sugar; firmly packed
  • 3 tbsp cider vinegar
  • 2 tbsp onion; finely chopped
  • 1 tbsp worcestershire sauce
  • 1/2 tsp dry mustard
  • 1/4 tsp pepper
  • 4 drops of hot sauce or to taste

Directions

  • Making Meatballs:
  • 1. combine all ingredients; mix by hand
  • 2. using 1" scoop, scoop out meat and roll into 1" balls
  • 3. place in baking dish 1/2" apart
  • 4. Bake @ 350 degrees until brown; about 30 minutes.
  • 5. remove from baking dish and place on paper towels to drain off excess grease.
  • For Sauce:
  • 1. Combine sauce ingredients in a large saucepan; bring to a boil.
  • 2. Reduce heat and simmer 5 minutes.
  • 3. Add meatballs and simmer additional 10 minutes.
  • 4. Transfer to a Crockpot to keep warm.
