The best things in life really can be the simplest. This delicious peach smoothie comes together with just three ingredients, or four if you count the ice cubes. It’s wonderful as a breakfast beverage or as a simple, refreshing treat on a warm summer day, especially when peaches are in season and abundant.

Peach Smoothie Ingredients

  • Peach or apricot nectar: The nectar serves as the base liquid for the peach smoothie, while also providing much of its sweetness.
  • Fresh or frozen peaches: Fresh, juicy peaches are delicious in a smoothie, while frozen ones make it more of a cold, refreshing treat for a warm day.
  • Fat-free vanilla yogurt: The yogurt adds probiotics, a hint of vanilla flavor, some protein and a creamy smoothie texture.
  • Ice: Two ice cubes are all you’ll need for this smoothie. Add more if you like an icy cold smoothie, or even omit them completely if you don’t.

Directions

Step 1: Blend the smoothie ingredients

In a blender, combine all the ingredients. Cover the blender and process the ingredients until they’re well blended. Pour the smoothie into chilled glasses; serve immediately.

Recipe Variations

  • Go vegan: Use a plant-based vanilla yogurt in place of the fat-free vanilla yogurt to convert this to a non-dairy and totally vegan recipe. Vegan yogurts are often made from coconut, cashew, almond, oat or soy; many of them still include the probiotic live cultures found in dairy-based yogurts.
  • Use juice instead: Swap the nectar for an orange-peach-mango juice, or even just orange juice for a slightly different flavor and possibly less sugar. Some nectar drinks have more sugar than similar juices, but that’s not always the case. Compare nutrition and ingredient labels to make the best purchase decisions.
  • Use a different yogurt flavor: Instead of vanilla, try a flavor such as strawberry or cherry that pairs nicely with peach, or even use a plain yogurt. The smoothie will still be sweet with a plain yogurt, thanks to the nectar; if it seems not quite sweet enough for you, add a teaspoon or so of honey.
  • Add fresh mint: A few sprigs of fresh mint blended into the smoothie taste delicious, plus it’s another way to use up some of that mint growing in abundance around the garden. Add more as a garnish, if desired.

How to Store a Peach Smoothie

A peach smoothie is delicious moments after making it, but you could store whatever you don’t finish. Cover the smoothie with plastic wrap (if desired) and place it in the refrigerator. Enjoy it within a few days. If any of the ingredients settle a bit, a quick stir mixes them again.

Can you make a peach smoothie ahead of time?

Sure! Like other make-ahead smoothie recipes, you could make the smoothie and place it in glasses to keep in the refrigerator for a day or two, or pour it into portion-sized freezable containers or cups to enjoy later. If freezing them, use lidded containers and store them upright. Frozen mixed smoothies keep for about three months in the freezer. Another option that speeds up smoothie prep is to pre-cut any fresh fruits you want to use and store them in portions the freezer in zippered freezer bags. Place the date on each bag so you can keep track of which fruits are the oldest.

Peach Smoothie Tips

Do you need to peel the peaches for a peach smoothie?

You don’t need to peel the peaches to make a peach smoothie, but if you’re not a fan of the texture, feel free to peel them. Check out our guide on how to peel peaches.

Could I use nectarines instead of peaches?

Absolutely! These two stone fruits are fairly similar, so if you’re using fresh fruit, choose the one that’s ripest, most abundant and most delicious in the moment. Here are more ways to enjoy nectarines.

What else can you add to a peach smoothie?

There’s no shortage of tasty extras to add to a peach smoothie. If you’d like to boost the protein, try mixing in chia seeds, wheat germ, raw oats, spinach or protein powder. If you’d like to experiment with other fruit, don’t be afraid to toss in some frozen strawberries or blueberries, or sliced bananas.

How can you make a peach smoothie thicker or thinner?

To make your peach smoothie thicker, add more yogurt and fruit; to make it thinner, add extra nectar and less yogurt, or add a little water or a few more ice cubes.
